A More Empowering Career Day
From People with Panache

By Bailey Berg

Filmmaker and former Chicagoan Sarah Moshman was frustrated working in an industry she thought objectified women. So, she traveled 7,128 miles in a minivan with five other girls through 22 states in search of inspiring women.

Last week, she finished working on a film titled The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things. The film encourages women to go after their career aspirations — no matter how lofty. During her road trip, Moshman interviewed 17 women with career fields ranging from aviation and science, to dance and architecture. This includes actress Jane Lynch and Vice Admiral Michelle Howard, the first African-American woman to command a U.S. Navy ship.

People with Panache quoted Moshman saying, “Knowing what you want to do at any age is so powerful. Being comfortable with yourself and knowing what you’re passionate about and what you want to do — that makes you unstoppable.”

For more on Moshman, check out the film trailer and read the Q&A she did with our friends at People with Panache.

Wiki Wednesday: Adrianne Wadewitz

Adrianne Wadewitz, an influential Wikipedia editor and Omaha native, died April 8 from head injuries sustained a week earlier in a rock climbing accident. The prolific Wikipedian — as regular Wikipedia contributors are called — fell 15-to-20 feet when her anchor failed while rappelling a rock formation in Joshua Tree National Park in southeastern California. Wadewitz, 37, said rock climbing created “a new narrative about herself, beyond that of a bookish, piano-playing Wikipedia contributor.”
